River Flood of
1936. The river backed up into Holliday's
Cove as far as Petro DiNovo's Dodge & Plymouth
Garage (3914 Main St.)
near the Elmer Avenue intersection.

The picture
above was taken during the great Ohio River Flood of 1936.
The river level, which is
covering the railroad tracks and part of Route 7, can be seen high up
on the piers of the Fort
Steuben Bridge in the background. A "Pure"
oil company sign is visible on the lighthouse gas
station.

above shows the toll booth on the Fort Steuben Bridge, located on the West Virginia
side of the Ohio River, looking toward Holliday's Cove. The car is stopped at the edge of the
rising water. The partially submerged half moon farm is on the left.
