at the Weirton Community Center. Senator John F. Kennedy and
his
brother Ted (Edward Kennedy) spoke there during the West Virginia
Presidential Campaign. Many of these pictures have been

"Weirton Room" around the JFK Memorial Bust. If you happened

Italian Sons and Daughters Banquet held on May 1, 1960, at the Weirton
Community Center Gynasium. The Kennedy's arrived in
Weirton as part
of the West Virginia Presidential Primary Campaign, when JFK was
running against Hubert Humphrey for the presidential nomination.
JFK's
voice was hoarse from the campaign trail and his brother "Ted" delivered
much of the speech.

center was renamed the following day (Nov. 5) to the Thomas E. Millsop
Community Center, in honor of Weirton's first mayor.

Congressman
Arch A. Moore, Jr. is shown speaking at the JFK Bronze Bust memorial
dedication ceremonies on Nov. 4, 1965. He mentioned that most
of us
often recall where we were on that fateful day in November, 1963, and
he happened to be in Weirton for a meeting. "On that day John F.
Kennedy
was taken from us, I shared with the City of Weirton thier deep
personal grief."
He cancelled that meeting in Weirton, but made certain he was in town
for
this special memorial ceremony.
